Yesterday my dad called around noon to say that a tree had fallen on their house and sadly on his car in the driveway. I say sadly because his 1984 toyota supra is his baby. He has lovingly restored this car over the last 20 years and apparently he had plans to pass it on to Ava when she turned 16. I thought the news warranted a trip over to their house to check out the damage so I packed two extremely tired babies into the car and we headed over. I had no idea that it would look as crazy as it did. The giant oak tree literally snapped off at the base! There were no roots sticking out and when you looked at my parents house all you could see was tree. When my mom called from work and I explained the situation to her she asked if she would be able to park in the garage when she got home. I told her that she was not grasping what had happened and she would not even see her garage for a few days. The front left side of the roof folded down against the house and it took 4 men with chainsaws 4 hours to clear about a quarter of the branches. We are very thankful that even though Dad was home, no one was hurt and especially thankful that we weren't over visiting for the day because that's where we usually park. Garden update
Although Ben temporarily discouraged me from gardening by showing me this article from Stuff White People Like, it is in full swing and I'm already running out of recipes for chives. I mean how many times can I get away with baked potatoes for dinner just so I can sprinkle them on top? Not to mention the chive biscuits and savory chive pancakes. So Ava and I planted carrots and the strawberries have given birth to two new baby plants. We'll see what other adventures we have growing our own food this summer.
Does anyone know why my chives are wearing purple hats?

And other oddities...
This morning while trying to make a quiche from scratch, clean the house, finish the laundry, and hold my cranky baby, I hear Ava screaming from the bathroom that she needs help. I discover that she cannot get her underwear off and soon realize why. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12...13...14...15 pairs later I can't help but laugh at her sense of humor. I made her put them all back on so I could take a photo. She seriously looked like she was wearing a hip cast.

False Alarm
So I'm not sure how one who hasn't gotten their period yet would know that she was or wasn't pregnant but I figured the fact that I was nauseous after every meal and smelling gorgonzola cheese everywhere was a pretty good sign. That combined with using expired birth control and the fact that after a four month hiatus Ben is making up for lost time in the bedroom, warranted a pregnancy test. Luckily disaster (uhh, I mean surprise blessing) was averted. I think it's time to visit the doctor for some reliable birth control and throw on a pair of sweats.

Beach life
Ben's on spring break this week and while my sister was here we took advantage of the great weather and a family friends offer to use their beach house for a few days. Even though we spent 4 days there I still didn't feel like we got enough time. With two young kids you can pretty much only do one thing a day. I loved having the whole family together to hang out, cook, play games and take care of me and my babies. Not to mention the amazing deals I found at the outlet mall. So I forgot my phone and my camera but Christy took some great family photos. Here are a few of my favorites:

Whew! It has been a whirlwind 10 days since I last posted. My sister came into town and we had a great time hanging out, playing, and taking turns with the kiddos. I love having company during the day. Here are a couple highlights from our week.
