Garden update

Although Ben temporarily discouraged me from gardening by showing me this article from Stuff White People Like, it is in full swing and I'm already running out of recipes for chives. I mean how many times can I get away with baked potatoes for dinner just so I can sprinkle them on top? Not to mention the chive biscuits and savory chive pancakes. So Ava and I planted carrots and the strawberries have given birth to two new baby plants. We'll see what other adventures we have growing our own food this summer.

And other oddities...

This morning while trying to make a quiche from scratch, clean the house, finish the laundry, and hold my cranky baby, I hear Ava screaming from the bathroom that she needs help. I discover that she cannot get her underwear off and soon realize why. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12...13...14...15 pairs later I can't help but laugh at her sense of humor. I made her put them all back on so I could take a photo. She seriously looked like she was wearing a hip cast.

And for your added enjoyment she also thought it would be hilarious to grab the camera and take a picture of my butt. Sadly, I am not wearing 15 pairs of underwear.

False Alarm

So I'm not sure how one who hasn't gotten their period yet would know that she was or wasn't pregnant but I figured the fact that I was nauseous after every meal and smelling gorgonzola cheese everywhere was a pretty good sign. That combined with using expired birth control and the fact that after a four month hiatus Ben is making up for lost time in the bedroom, warranted a pregnancy test. Luckily disaster (uhh, I mean surprise blessing) was averted. I think it's time to visit the doctor for some reliable birth control and throw on a pair of sweats.

Beach life

Ben's on spring break this week and while my sister was here we took advantage of the great weather and a family friends offer to use their beach house for a few days. Even though we spent 4 days there I still didn't feel like we got enough time. With two young kids you can pretty much only do one thing a day. I loved having the whole family together to hang out, cook, play games and take care of me and my babies. Not to mention the amazing deals I found at the outlet mall. So I forgot my phone and my camera but Christy took some great family photos. Here are a few of my favorites:

Whew! It has been a whirlwind 10 days since I last posted. My sister came into town and we had a great time hanging out, playing, and taking turns with the kiddos. I love having company during the day. Here are a couple highlights from our week.

We made flubber last week and it was so much fun. It was one of the only times Ava's actually sat down and played by herself for more then 10 minutes. I've left it on the table in a baggie and she's pulled it out every day to play with it. Here's the recipe:

1/3 cup water

  • 3 tablespoons borax, laundry booster (find next to the laundry detergent)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups school glue (I use 4 4-oz bottles of Elmer's school glue)
  • food coloring
  1. 1
    Put the borax in 1/3 c of warm water and stir until dissolved. Then add several large squirts of food coloring and set aside.

    Pour the remaining 2 cups of water into a container and add the 2 cups of school glue. Stir until dissolved.

    Add the borax solution to the glue solution.
  4. 4
    Mix with your hands. Remove all jewelry! Do not use a spoon! This is really fun.

    It takes approximately 5 minutes for all of the water to be absorbed and for the mixture to reach the right consistency. Knead firmly to encourage suspension of the glue particles.

    Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. It should last two weeks or more.
